Local Area Planning

In the not-so-distant future, Rosemont will be taking part in a Local Area Plan, which outlines what kinds of density and buildings belong on each street around Rosemont, Cambrian, Triwood, Brentwood and Dalhousie.

We are starting preliminary planning for this process with our neighbouring communities.

 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Our Community Association will have a seat at the table and we need volunteers to help be the voice of our community.

What are LAPs?

If you aren't familiar with LAPs, you can learn more about them them here:

As part of the LAP process, Rosemont Community Association will have one or two spaces to help influence the specific details of our LAP (which will involve representatives from other communities such as Cambrian, Highwood, Triwood, Brentwood and Dalhousie). We have not been given a start date for this process, but based on what we have heard from other communities, there is a general belief that it may start sometime in the next year or two

How can you get involved?

We are looking for a couple of volunteers who can attend the LAP meetings and provide input and influence changes that accurately reflect the needs and wants of Rosemont residents.

We are hoping to have 2-3 volunteers who can work together as a team to be the voice of Rosemont during this process.

It involves approximately 10 meetings with various stakeholders such as other community representatives, developers and city officials to discuss appropriate land massing and scaling for every street and road in our LAP. It is our understanding that it could be virtual or in-person for each meeting.

We are hoping to have someone who is passionate and willing to learn about LAPs (including the ones that have already been completed).

We also want to have this small group meet periodically with the Rosemont CA board to discuss how they plan to approach the process to ensure they accurately capture the general feeling and needs of the community.

Responsibilities as it relates to this position

  • General understanding of community development and some general context about what has taken place around the community the past several years

  • A passion for understanding and shaping community plans

  • Has read and understands all of the Local Area Plan information, most notably the Guide for Local Area Planning (https://www.calgary.ca/planning/local-area/guidebook.html)

  • Can separate personal political beliefs or personal preferences in favour of broad community considerations and needs

  • Able to meet with the Rosemont CA board to discuss and capture the needs of the community and convey these during the LAP process

  • Able to meet all time commitments required for the LAP process; we have been told it will be approximately 10 meetings over 12-16 months. It may be virtual or in-person, we aren't sure at this time

  • Keep Rosemont CA board and/or development committee abreast of progress and provide status updates as required (probably attend 3-4 board meetings during the year)

  • Can work with other volunteers to ensure alignment in strategy, approach, needs and considerations during process

  • Able to work independently and be a champion for this process

  • May be required to write short newsletter updates for us to provide to residents

We, as the Rosemont CA board, would help guide any volunteers involved in this process, but are looking for someone to be a leader and champion for this without significant oversight.

If this is of interest to you, please email us at info@rosemontyyc.com. Thank you for getting involved and helping ensure that Rosemont is a great place to live for many years to come.
